Hip-Hop has become the highest selling genre in America for the first time in its history.
Hip-hop has been making history this summer surpassing rock music in overall sales to become the highest selling genre in America. This notable fact comes as a result of some high profile releases this year, including Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, and DJ Khaled.
This weeks Billboard 200 chart exemplifies hip-hop’s domination with 5 hip-hop albums in the top 10, all of which are repeat charters (meaning this week was not their debut!). Lamar, Jay, Khaled, 21 Savage, and Meek Mill all charted in the top 10, each of which charted higher than 6.Will this trend continue to last? It is unclear; however one thing is certain: Hip-hop isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
